Sadly, I come across this all the time, where you make the mistake of putting a family member or a friend in charge of the trust. Or you put the money earmarked for your child to them, they have control, and they might not be great money managers. They might think from the kindness of their heart, but they might not make the wise financial decisions to ensure the safety of your child. So having it being a Trust, it can be self-funded, and you can dictate the terms of that trust for the caretaking of your child in their best interest. And have a manager follow the rules therefore preventing short funding or other circumstances that might happen when it’s not organized.
